My name is Heather Foster, and this year marks my twenty-first year teaching in McDowell County Schools. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English Education. I recently completed my Master's Degree of Transnational and Multicultural Literature from East Carolina University. Additionally, I am certified in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education. I have a sixteen year old son who attends McDowell High School and is a junior in the AVID program. I love my job and enjoy working with students in the classroom and through various community service projects. I have taught all levels of English in grades nine through twelve. Additionally, I currently serve on the AVID site team and am the sophomore AVID elective teacher. Ask me about AVID? I love getting the chance to talk about our program and share the successes of our students. I believe the most successful student is the one who cares about the school and the community, and AVID fosters a commitment to both.
